A historian whose own history is threatened.
An introduction
Ava enters the saga when her world is being erased backwards. Her encounter with the Doctor makes the first book’s questions of continuity immediate: history is not only something she studies, but something from which she may be removed.
Why this encounter matters
Her early place in the story is active. The first book ends with her trusted at the controls while the Doctor rests. Across the next adventures, companionship becomes a family relationship that extends beyond the ship.
