The opening situation
An hourglass-marked door near the library draws the crew into a space of unchosen lives. The familiar ship acquires an unfamiliar depth, and possible histories become a hazard. Treat these possibilities as part of the mystery; the book does not ask you to replace the companions’ established lives with every image they encounter.
