What happened
Ava and the Doctor rescue Cal, becoming entangled in the Spiral’s reality-making language. The engine feeds on unfinished speech and emotional omissions. Counterfactual roles and possible versions of lives unsettle the travellers; they should not be read as a settled forecast.
Where the book leaves us
The Doctor acknowledges Ralen and the grief he has withheld. Forgiveness helps the Spiral relinquish its demand for completion, and Cal is restored after his retraction. The final turn towards Berlin carries a warning of Davros and the Daleks. The next journey follows from survival, not from every hurt being erased.
