Yara
A notebook, a traveller, and an attention that remains her own.
An introduction
Yara joins the TARDIS after The Iron Orchard. In the following journeys, observation and the keeping of an account become part of her relationship with the worlds and people she encounters. Her presence adds another witness rather than another version of the Doctor’s judgement.
Why this encounter matters
The Plastic Parish and The House That Remembered Him give her a place in investigations where care depends on listening closely. A companion’s account can sit beside the Doctor’s without being reduced to his version of events.

Later developments · spoilers through Book 20
In Book 20, Yara volunteers to take the Probability Engine’s anchor role. She remains alive in distributed form, with limits to what she can perceive and communicate. The closing picture made for her affirms continuing companionship without pretending physical separation has no cost.
