What happened
The Carnival’s wonders conceal the Audience’s consumption of joy and identity. Disappearances and mirrored selves draw the travellers into a performance that cannot be escaped by treating it as harmless entertainment. Anna becomes central to the danger as a host and tether.
Where the book leaves us
Ava cuts the tether while the Doctor provides a distraction. Anna integrates the remaining mirror version rather than leaving the story as a simple division between an original and a disposable copy. After the Carnival, Anna sketches and Ava and Cal grow closer. The final invitation opens a possibility; it does not establish the location of the next book.
